Ásgeir is an Icelandic singer/songwriter who released his debut album "Dýrð í dauðaþögn" (Eng: Into Silence) in 2012 after finishing school, with a gentle, melancholic-serious mix of folk and electronics It was produced by Gudmundur Kristinn Jonsson and based on lyrics written by Einar Georg Einarsson, Ásgeir's father and a well-known Icelandic poet. The work topped all records in no time and became Iceland's best-selling debut - the CD went over the counter more than 30,000 times in his homeland, which means that every tenth Icelander owns the album Neither Björk nor Sigur Rós could sell more units off the bat. In 2012, Ásgeir won in several categories at the Icelandic Music Awards: Best Album of the Year, Best Newcomer (Pop, Rock, Blues), Public Choice Award and Icelandicmusic.com's Online Achievement Award.
