When a traveler goes on a journey, he can tell a story. However, if the traveler is a talented musician with open ears for foreign sounds, then he will not limit himself to whimsical reports, but will want to transform the impressions he receives into his own creations. This was also the case for the organist's son Cornelis Schuyt (pronounced: S-chr-ö-it). Born seven years before William Shakespeare in Leiden in the Netherlands, he was allowed to visit the land of the blossoming lemons, and the musical inspiration he brought back from there apparently never left him: In the course of his later life, he wrote four volumes of the most enchanting madrigals and also published a collection of paduanas and gagliards of breathtaking beauty.
