Anja Lechner, hailed as "one of the world's most talented cellists" (Strings Magazine), releases her latest and first solo album on ECM. Lechner has shaped her broad musical horizons as a member of the renowned Rosamunde Quartet and through collaborations with cross-genre artists ranging from classical music to jazz and tango. The album centers on Bach's famous unaccompanied cello suites, the first two of a total of six suites, which she pairs with works by 17th century Scottish composer Tobias Hume and 18th century German composer Carl Friedrich Abel that span two centuries. It sheds new light on the music. These works were originally composed for viola da gamba, but Lechner's interpretations bring new colors and a wider range. Some of them were arranged by Lechner himself.
