Arturo Sandoval is probably the most internationally famous Cuban trumpeter. As a co-founder of the legendary Cuban band Irakere, Sandoval performed all over the world, including regular annual residencies at Ronnie Scott's, London. After leaving Irakere in 1981 he performed with Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra before defecting to the USA in 1990. There he signed to GRP Records and has since pursued a solo career performing jazz and Latin music. On 'Rumba Palace' Sandoval leads a hand-picked group of musicians on a set of Afro-Cuban style originals that feature his virtuoso trumpet playing, outstanding solo performances from individual members of the band as well as superb ensemble playing.
