While cpo is currently preparing a box set with all nine symphonies by the Austrian composer Egon Wellesz, the Aron Quartet is beginning with the cycle of string quartets, in which the peer of Alban Berg and private pupil of Arnold Schoenberg has covered just as remarkable a path as in his orchestral music. It begins at the end of the late Romantic period, whose harmonic disintegration can no longer be ignored, but at this stage once again exudes all its autumnal charm. Later, we witness a constructive reorientation that reveals the strict architectural struts without ifs and buts on the terrain of chamber music: The interplay, wanderings and transformations of the motifs, the moving force fields between the individual voices, the dynamic drive to new shores - they invite intense, fascinating participation.
