Popis
On her eighth album "Nothing's About To Happen To Me", Mitski, musically supported by her band and an orchestra, tells a multi-layered, enigmatic story that centers on a woman who lives in seclusion in a neglected house. Outside her home, she is an outsider; inside her home, she is free. Mitski wrote all the songs on "Nothing's About To Happen To Me". The album, produced and recorded by Patrick Hyland and mastered by Bob Weston, continues the musical line of "The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We" (2023). It was recorded live by Mitski's touring band The Land. The orchestral recordings, arranged by Drew Erickson, took place at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, with Michael Harris handling the sound engineering. The single "Where's My Phone?" released today, a rock song with distorted fuzz guitars, hints at the musical range and energy of the album: "Where did it go // Where's my phone // Where's my phone // Where did I leave // Where'd I go // Where'd I go," sings Mitski. The release of "Where's My Phone?" is accompanied by an emotionally stirring, kaleidoscopic video by director Noel Paul. The playful and unconventional clip stars Mitski as a paranoid woman trying to protect her sister in a gothic house, who must overcome increasingly absurd human obstacles. The intruders - whether threatening or friendly - create a complex psychological atmosphere and ultimately lead to total chaos. The idea for this is based on Shirley Jackson's novel "We Have Always Lived In The Castle". Mitski is "indie rock's most intriguing and mysterious musician" (Rolling Stone), who "keeps evolving in brilliant and wonderful ways" (NPR Music). Over the course of her career, she has released seven albums to date, four of which have achieved gold status. Her song "My Love Mine All Mine" is a worldwide hit and has gone quadruple platinum. Mitski's many collaborations with other artists include two co-writing contributions for the current Florence And The Machine album "Everybody Scream", as well as a collaboration with David Byrne and Son Lux for the Oscar-nominated film "This Is A Life". She is currently writing music and lyrics for the musical adaptation of "The Queen's Gambit". Her concerts, which Variety has called a "fascinating study of movement", have also been described as "highly stylized, brilliantly realized, super cool" (Philadelphia Inquirer) and "unusual, enigmatic and utterly captivating" (The Guardian). Her first concert film "Mitski: The Land" was released in over 600 cinemas worldwide in October 2025 and cemented her reputation as "one of the few indie stars to have earned her big break" (Uproxx). It was released at the same time as the live album "The Land".
