Affinity was one of several British jazz rock bands in the early 70s. The band was formed by some students from the science department of Sussex University.
Among them Grant Serpell (drums) and Lynton Naiff (piano), who then secured the services of the singer Linda Hoyle. Gemanaged by jazz club owner Ronnie Scott, the only album 'Affinity' by Vertigo was released.
Songs like 'I Am And So Are You', 'Night Flight' and 'All Along The Watchtower', which were a mixture of jazz, rock and fusion, secured the band respect and recognition by their fans. Apart from that, Linda Hoyle was a brilliant singer.
Affinity was one of several brilliant British jazz-rock groups to emerge on the music scene in the early seventies. They recruited vocalist Linda Hoyle and Affinity were managed by Jazz Club Ronnie Scott owner, who was impressed by their refreshing sound. Later, renowned bassist Mo Foster became another member of the band
The self-titled album was their only album, first released on the Vertigo label in 1970, and among the 15 glorious songs, regular album titles ,I Am And So Are You', 'Night Flight' and 'All Along The Watch Tower' also include 8 bonus tracks, such as 'Eli's Coming' ,'United States Of Mind' and 'I Am The Walrus'
The band's musical style is a refreshingly attractive blend of rock and jazz and is given a unique character by the distinctive voice of Linda Hoyle. Billboard 1970: "The whole group is probably the best new thing heard in the jazz-pop area this year."
