Popis
Onutė Narbutaitė's oratorio "Centones Meae Urbi" (1997) is a key work of Lithuanian contemporary music and earned the composer the Lithuanian National Prize. This new recording from 2024 with Robertas Šervenikas as conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Kaunas State Choir and the Lithuanian vocal soloists Gunta Gelgotė and Nerijus Macevičius, is an important addition to Lithuanian music recordings. The Lithuanian capital Vilnius is a mosaic of cultures, music and languages. This diversity finds its musical expression in the 70-minute multilingual oratorio "Centones Maea Urbi", a work that can also be seen as the composer's final breakthrough. The Kaunas State Choir has been one of the most renowned Lithuanian vocal ensembles for over 50 years. It is proud to have been conducted by more than 70 Lithuanian and foreign conductors, and its discography includes more than 60 albums. Its artistic director and chief conductor, Lithuanian Culture and Arts Prize laureate Professor Robertas Šervenikas, interprets both contemporary and classical repertoire and is often invited to premiere symphonic compositions by Lithuanian composers - or works such as the impressive opera "Cornet" by Onutė Narbutaitė. He has recorded several dozen albums of contemporary music. The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO), one of the most important music ensembles in Lithuania, has been part of Lithuanian cultural life since its foundation in 1940. It regularly takes part in the Gaida International Festival of Contemporary Music, premieres works by Lithuanian composers, participates in recordings and presents Lithuanian music in live broadcasts on Euroradio, but also travels internationally, presenting its program in Europe, Asia and South America.
