Popis
The Beatles' third album in less than eighteen months was released on July 10, 1964 and coincided with the release of their first film. Of the 13 tracks on the album, seven were featured on the film's soundtrack. One single had already been released before the album, namely "Can't Buy Me Love"/"You Can't Do That", which was released on March 20. It was also noteworthy that for the first time on a Beatles album, all the tracks were composed by John and Paul. Since the release of With The Beatles in November the previous year, their success in the UK had spread around the world. Their first US single via Capitol Records - "I Want To Hold Your Hand"/"I Saw Her Standing There" - had topped the US charts for seven weeks, leading to their previous US distributor reissuing "She Loves You" and "Love Me Do", both of which also reached number one. Such was the group's popularity that in the first week of April 1964, they took all five top spots on the Billboard charts and a further seven tracks on the Hot Hundred charts. The album contains eight original Beatles songs, plus four instrumental tracks performed by George Martin's orchestra. The album only contains music from the film of the same name. The seven songs on side one of the original British album and the title I'll Cry Instead were used. I'll Cry Instead was released in the USA in a version extended by almost twenty seconds. Using the original 1964 mono master, new lacquers were cut completely analog by Kevin Reeves at East Iris Studios in Nashville. By constantly referencing the original first pressing, the album is faithful to the original and allows more musical information to be heard than was previously possible. With faithfully recreated artwork and a new four-page insert with an essay by American Beatles historian Bruce Spizer.
