Shortly after recording the album "A Swingin' Affair" in August 1962, tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon relocated to Europe, where he would settle down for the next fourteen years. It was not until 1965 that he returned to the USA for a visit to record his last album for Blue Note, which he aptly titled "Gettin' Around". The album marked his first collaboration with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, whose older brother was Teddy Dexter's best childhood friend.
