The trumpeter Carmell Jones was 24 years young when he left his native Kansas City for Los Angeles in 1960. And shortly after his arrival, the promising youngster, whom some compared to Clifford Brown at the time, received a recording contract with Pacific Jazz. in 1961 he was able to record his phenomenal debut album "The Remarkable Carmell Jones" for the label. Together with tenor saxophonist Harold Land, pianist Frank Strazzeri, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Leon Pettis, he presented a highly interesting mixture of cool jazz and hardbop on the album.
