Poems is a joint project by Viktor Orri Arnason and Alfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir. The Icelanders: inside - he a composer, conductor and producer, she a soprano and visual artist - will release their DG debut on November 10, 2023 on CD, vinyl and digitally. In their exploration of their cultural heritage, they have written ten pieces in which they set the poetry of Icelandic poets past and present to music, including their own texts. Árnason accompanies Guðmundsdóttir's vocals on the piano or takes up the violin and viola, sometimes in interplay with strings from the Reykjavík Orkestra and electronic sounds. The duo was inspired by works by Ólöf Sigurðardóttir frá Hlöðum (1857-1933), Hulda (1881-1946), Guðfinna Jónsdóttir frá Hömrum (1899-1946), Sigurður Pálsson (1948-2017) and Arndís Lóa Magnúsdóttir (born 1994). They tell of fragility and loneliness, change and renewal, the beauty of nature "Poems is basically about life, about its happiness and unhappiness," says Árnason, "and about the fact that it can help us to seize the moment."
