The X Ambassadors' latest project is inspired by their own life experiences growing up in a small town in upstate New York (hence the album title "Townie"). While the lyrics are very specific to the band's hometown, the sentiment is universal. Nostalgia not only for their own hometown, but also for their own youth and the blissful naivety of youth. The regret that, as you get older and look back more clearly, you wish you had done things differently or appreciated them for what they really were at the time. The feeling of being forgotten and left behind while friends come and go. The relief of having made it through. The survivor's guilt at having made it.
