Buddy Guy is doing well, which can be seen and especially heard on his new album "The Blues Don't Lie". Already four years ago, the guitarist and singer from Louisiana assured us that "his" music was doing well, "The Blues Is Alive And Well". He should be right: The album, which featured Jeff Beck, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger as guests, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Blues charts and won the Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2019. With "The Blues Don't Lie" Buddy Guy now presents the successor to the successful album, which should once again cause enthusiasm among fans. The 86-year-old has lost nothing of his productivity and delivers with 16 songs again a veritable cornucopia of songs. For some of them, the Blues Man can once again rely on prominent support. In "We Go Back" he raves about old times with the legendary Mavis Staples and looks back on their shared history. "Follow The Money," his duet with folk bard James Taylor, is about politics and greed. And in the first single off the album called "Gunsmoke Blues," Buddy Guy and Jason Isbell take on the sad ongoing topic of rampages and gun violence in the US. Elvis Costello, Bobby Rush and Wendy Moten also do the honors. Many of the songs on "The Blues Don't Lie" were again written by Buddy Guy's longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge. The Grammy award-winning producer has also given the 16 songs a brilliantly warm sound. Legend has it that his new album will be released 65 years to the day after Buddy Guy arrived in Chicago by train from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with nothing but the clothes he was wearing and his guitar to become a successful musician. Today, 38 Blues Music Awards, eight Grammys, the Grammy for Lifetime Achievement and countless other awards later, there are no two opinions as to whether he has achieved that goal. "The Blues Don't Lie.
