The soundtrack to Disney's new animated adventure! The heart of "Wish" - like so many of the Disney films before it - is the music. "So many of our beloved films are musicals," Del Vecho says. "When you think of Disney, you think of a range of emotions. You want to feel like you're on a roller coaster ride, and part of that emotion comes from the music. These ultimately classic songs evoke deeper levels of emotion than we could convey with dialogue alone." In choosing the songs and songwriter for "Wish," the filmmakers wanted to find someone who could deliver both a timeless and contemporary sound. Lee says, "Julia Michaels is an exceptional talent, and Julia, along with her writing partner Benjamin Rice, created original songs that inspired us all as we worked on the film." Her collaborative process was so special that she really sat down with us and talked about our characters' motivations.' According to director Chris Buck, Michaels' first challenge was to write a song that expressed the moment Asha makes her wish on behalf of the people of the kingdom. "Julia came back with this incredible demo that contained exactly what we had been talking about," he says. "It had the feel of something classic but fresh because she brought her own contemporary ideas to it." That song would become "This Wish," a song Asha sings when she's at rock bottom and turning to the stars. Buck adds, "Julia loves Disney movies and grew up with them. She still has that passion for them. Julia and Ben [Rice] were able to put all that passion into the songs for this movie." Michaels, who has written songs for Dua Lipa, P!nk and Selena Gomez, among others, and Rice wrote seven original songs for the film. Composer Dave Metzger was commissioned to compose a memorable score for the film. "He's incredibly talented - we worked with him as musical arranger on both 'Frozen' features - and it's a real pleasure to work with him," says Del Vecho.
