In his Éventail de musique française, Swiss oboist and composer Heinz Holliger roams a wide selection of French works for oboe and piano in a wide-ranging program of early 20th century music. "The closeness of the oboe to the human voice gave me the idea," Holliger says in the CD accompanying text, "based on the still far too little known collection of Vocalises-Etudes, to open up the colorful fan of French music a bit." Included in this extensive recital are compositions by Ravel, Debussy, Milhaud, Saint-Saëns, Casadesus, as well as Koechlin, Jolivet and Messiaen - Holliger also maintained personal relationships with several of the composers. Anton Kernjak, who was featured on Holliger's 2014 recording Aschenmusik, is heard on piano, while French harpist Alice Belugou contributes on André Jovillet's Controversia pour hautbois et harpe. The great richness of the 20th century oboe repertoire is on display here, in captivating dialogues between Holliger and piano or harp. Éventail follows the 2022 release of Heinz Holliger's multiple award-winning opera Lunea.
