Even though most of you have just returned from your summer holiday, one thing is certain: Christmas is approaching inexorably. So it is exactly the right time to come onto the market with the following sensation: the Christmas Oratorio "The Shepherds at the Bethlehem Crib" by Georg Philipp Telemann. We have now recorded this late masterpiece (1759) together with the Christmas cantatas of 1760 and 1761 for the first time
Under the enthusiastic direction of Ludger Remy, Constanze Backes, Mechthild Georg, Andreas Post, Klaus Mertens and the Kammerchor Michaelstein will sing. It plays the Telemann Chamber Orchestra Michaelstein
Ludger Remy has his say on the works themselves: "One does not hear the age of the composer in the great works of old age. With ethereal angelic buzz and drastic bagpipe music he paints the events of Christmas without ever reaching for the plattude: he remains subtle and noble-galant in the best literal sense
Telemann shows a youth and novelty to which many younger contemporaries do not have the courage and which in old age are associated with wisdom and childlike faith, but above all : with charm"
