Throughout his life, Miklós Rózsa feared that his fame as a Hollywood composer would overshadow his reputation as a composer of classical concert pieces. How right he was: the almost inevitable consequence of 17 Oscar nominations and three statuettes won. The two worlds were virtually irreconcilable and forced Rózsa to lead a "double life" (the title of his autobiography and one of his Oscar-winning films). The three orchestral works presented here from his early, middle and late phases are a wonderful introduction to precisely this second side of the composer.
