This release contains Jimmy Smith's complete classic 1962 LP Bashin'-The Unpredictable Jimmy Smith (Verve V6-8474), featuring the leader backed by a big band conducted and arranged by Oliver Nelson, and showcased in a trio set. The material consists of a combination between old standards and originals arranged by Oliver Nelson. Midnight Special (Blue Note BST84078), features the leader on organ backed by Stanley Turrentine on tenor sax, Kenny Burrell on guitar, and Donald Bailey on drums. Two complete trio albums, both featuring the same personnel as the trio side of Bashin' have been added as a bonus: Jimmy Smith Plays Fats Waller (Blue Note BST-84100), and Crazy! Baby (Blue Note BST-84030).
