Ali Farka Touré's third album, 1992's "The Source," opened doors wide for the legendary Malian singer and guitarist. For many fans, it is still his masterpiece and it was through this record that Ry Cooder also became aware of him.
After this release, the two recorded the Grammy-winning album "Talking Timbuktu." "The Source" features two duets with Taj Mahal as well as Farka Touré's first recordings with Asco, a band of musicians from his hometown of Niafunké featuring singer Afel Bocoum, Hamma Sankare (calabash) and Oumar Touré (congas).
In the midst of this intimate, stripped-down setting, the father of desert blues repeatedly sets off on his hypnotizing guitar solos
Now "The Source" is released on vinyl for the first time ever. For this it was remixed from the original master tapes and contains with "Tambaka" a previously unreleased song from the same sessions.
