"Come Ahead" is the 12th album from Primal Scream. 11 new songs with which Bobby Gillespie prepares to release some of the most personal songs of the band's career. The songwriting process for "Come Ahead" began in 2019, at which point Bobby Gillespie had no idea if he would make another Primal Scream album. For the first time, the lyrics came before the music. The story came first. Bobby wrote alone, with an acoustic guitar. The ideas flowed quickly, in long bursts of inspiration. This process, along with the encouragement of producer David Holmes, provided a new entry point. Working with Holmes and Primal Scream guitarist Andrew Innes, the Come Ahead sessions were held in Belfast, London and Los Angeles. "I'm very excited about this album, like making your first record. If there was an overall theme for Come Ahead, it would perhaps be conflict, whether internal or external. The title is a Glasgow term. When someone threatens to fight you, you say, 'Come on!' It brings to mind the indomitable spirit of Glaswegians, and the album itself conveys that aggressive attitude and confidence. They have a word for it up there: gallus.
