Live at The Ash Grove July 30, 1971. Located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, the Ash Grove was opened by Ed Pearl in 1958. Over the next 15 years, the club became a nexus of interaction between older folk and blues legends, and a new generation of developing musical acts. Mick Jagger was a frequent patron, as were the Byrds, Ry Cooder, and Linda Rondstadt. This concert performance by Muddy Waters, captured two years before the club closed, finds the Mississippi bluesman in fine form. Joined by an all-star band, including pianist Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, Waters delivers spirited renditions of songs that helped lay the foundation for blues music. /// Muddy Waters - guitar, vocal / Pee Wee Madison - guitar / Calvin Fuzz Jones - bass / Willie "Big Eyes" Smith - drums / Sammy Lawson - guitar / Paul Oscher - harmonica / Pinetop Perkins - piano / Shakey Horton - harmonica
