With "King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2", Denzel Curry presents a sequel to the project, bringing back the sound that launched his career. While the first installment of "King Of The Mischievous South" was created from the perspective of his Raven Miyagi persona, a name given to him by Raider Klan founder SpaceGhostPurrp, Volume 2 features Curry in his Big Ultra persona - an expanded version of Raven Miyagi that is boastful and revels in the success Curry has had over the last decade of his career. making "King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2" had been a goal of Curry's for some time, though his initial attempts to do so ultimately devolved into other projects, namely his 2016 album Imperial and 2020's 13LOOD 1N + 13LOOD OUT. It wasn't until he stopped trying too hard to make Volume 2 that the songs began to emerge on their own The project's sound pays homage to the great musical heritage of the South - from Memphis to Houston to Curry's native South Florida - and features old and new greats from the region as well as others whose style is indebted to the South's musical heritage. These include Key Nyata, a former member of the Raider Klan, Juicy J and Project Pat from Memphis, Maxo Kream, That Mexican OT and Mike Dimes from Texas, TiaCorine from North Carolina, 2 Chainz and Kenny Mason from Atlanta, Ski Mask The Slump God and PlayThatBoiZay from South Florida, and ASAP Ferg and ASAP Rocky, to name a few. The project, and the intentional inclusion of Rocky and Ferg, is Curry's attempt to show what could have been had relations with SpaceGhostPurrp not deteriorated, and fulfill the promise that existed at the beginning of their respective careers in the early 2010s. After all the otherworldly adventures Denzel has taken listeners on over the course of his last few conceptual albums, this project serves as a showcase for the fun, spontaneity and technical mastery that have made him one of the most sought-after talents in rap over the last decade.
