Acclaimed singer Lizz Wright revisits a 20-year career as one of the great modern American singers with her studio album "Shadow," which includes the previously released single "Sweet Feeling." "Shadow" producer and longtime collaborator/music director Chris Bruce (Seal, Bettye LaVette, Sheryl Crow) brought "Sweet Feeling" by Candi Staton into Wright's mind as part of the pre-production process in which they listened to a number of songs. Wright explains, "I first heard Candi Staton as a kid because of her gospel singing, which my dad loved. It wasn't until years later that I realized she also sings contemporary music. Her voice is like no other and sounds honest and familiar in everything she sings, no matter the genre." On "Sweet Feeling", Wright throws herself unabashedly into the blues. She is at home in the blues city of Chicago and makes it clear that now is the time and place to sit back and be there. Wright says, "I'm thrilled that I can sing the blues more now. It has a certain boldness to it, but it's also comforting. Singing the blues in Chicago is like finding the sap in a big old tree. The blues is in the spirit of the city. "x
