The film "Wicked", based on the popular musical "The Wizard of Oz", will be released in German cinemas in December 2024. The film shows the first chapter of an immersive two-parter.
The professional and successful casting of the roles makes the soundtrack a highlight in its own right. Among others, Grammy winner and multi-platinum singer Ariana Grande can be heard as Glinda. The misunderstood Elphaba, played and sung by Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Boradway's The Color Purple) harmonizes perfectly with the international star.
Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh also plays the principal of Shiz University, Madame Morrible. Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) stars as Fiyero, a mischievous and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway's Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba's favorite sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
Characters also include Pfannee and ShenShen, Glinda's conniving sidekicks played by Emmy-nominated Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots). A new character has also been created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman). Four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) is also part of the film adaptation as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
