According to many jazz critics, "The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1" is the most important album by bebop pioneer and pianist Bud Powell. It contains two recording sessions from 1949 and 1951, one in which Powell played with an all-star quintet in a typical bebop line-up, the other in a classic trio format. The repertoire is a veritable treasure trove of bebop classics and includes pieces by Monk, Parker and Gillespie as well as three of Powell's best-known compositions: "Un Poco Loco", "Dance Of The Infidels" and "Parisian Thoroughfare".
