Aigul Akhmetshina is the fiery young mezzo who is taking the opera world by storm. In her debut album, the opera singer lends her voice to Bizet's Carmen and traces a path through her own remarkable journey. Her story is one of determination and perseverance against all odds, which began in a rural village in the mountains of Bashkortostan. At the age of 14, she left home to pursue her singing career. Although she was rejected from a Moscow conservatory because she was told she lacked the right voice and looks, Aigul has already made history at the age of 27. She is the youngest artist ever to take on the title role of Bizet's Carmen at the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera - new productions have been created around her for both.
