Maria Muldaur's roots are in the folk revival of the early 1960s, a time when figures like Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan were making bold statements about the civil rights movement, Vietnam, and other burning issues of the day. More than four decades later, in the face of political and social issues in which the stakes are equally high, Muldaur has assembled a group of legendary female performers to lend their voices in a critical examination of where USA is, as a nation, and where the country is going. The album showcases the work of some of the most socially conscious songwriters of the past half-century: Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Allen Toussaint, Earl King and Garth Brooks, to name a few. The songs include "Yes, We Can, Can, "Inner City Blues" and "Masters of War" and the guest vocalists include Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, Phoebe Snow, Odetta and Jane Fonda.
