The title "Oriente Lux" refers to the light that always rises in the East, but it also means the spiritual light of ancient civilizations of the Middle and Far East. The Orpheus 21 project was born in 2017 from the dialogue of European medieval music with significant pieces of the oral oriental tradition. The social and cultural initiative for refugee professional musicians is led by Syrian singer and oud player Waed Bouhassoun and Ney virtuoso Moslem Rahal. The 2019 recording from the Philharmonie de Paris brings together outstanding musicians from Syria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Morocco and Turkey with Hespèrion XXI and Jordi Savall.
