Popis
After several years of research, experimentation and concerts, Jordi Savall and the percussionist Pedro Estevan recorded the album "La Lira d'Espéria" in 1994. Savall chose historical instruments for the interpretation of the medieval pieces: the lyre (an ancient stringed instrument bowed with a bow), the rebec (a precursor of today's violin), the tenor fiddle and the rebab (a lute from the Arabic region bowed with a bow). The title, along with the ancient lyre, referred to Hesperia - fitting for the instrumentation and the medieval repertoire from Christian, Jewish and Arab-Andalusian cultures, which were widespread in the Iberian and Italian regions at the time. In Greek antiquity, Hesperia referred to the two westernmost peninsulas of the Mediterranean, the Italian and the Iberian. The lyre was one of the first musical instruments described in Hellenic mythology.
