Emanuel Moór (1863-1931) was the son of an opera singer and cantor from the Hungarian town of Kecskemét, studied in Budapest with Robert Volkmann and then in Vienna with Anton Bruckner and the pianist Anton Door. And there is no doubt that the Danube metropolis has left its musical mark on his work, as the three piano trios presented here reveal - although the starting point of this trilogy is not to be found in his composition teachers, but rather in their no less famous antipodes: Johannes Brahms is for Moór, much like for his younger compatriots Béla Bartók and Ernő Dohnányi, the chamber music starting point from which the path leads him in a wide spiral to ever more individual structures and modes of expression - always with the piano at the center, which the composer brilliantly mastered and combined with the two string instruments to create exciting architectures.
