For almost thirty years, the Schuppanzigh Quartet has been causing an enormous stir in the field of string quartet literature. founded in 1996 by violinist Anton Steck, the ensemble guarantees witty experiences with its intelligently designed concert programs and recordings, whose artistic cross-connections are always fascinating, such as the current album with its snapshot of early 19th century Vienna. Beethoven's unruly and ironic "Quartetto serioso" op. 95 and a quartet by the French violinist Pierre Rode, for whom the master wrote his last violin sonata op. 96 in 1812, meet here.
