This program focuses on Gabriel Faure's orchestrated songs and his incidental music, of which his suite from the incidental music to "Pelleas et Melisande" contains some of his most popular music. Performances of Faure's spectacular Wagneresque drama 'Promethee' are a real rarity, while the eloquent 'Shylock Suite', based on Shakespeare, contains some of his most ornate symphonic works. Faure orchestrated only a small number of his more than 100 songs, but these include the overwhelmingly beautiful love song "Les Roses d'Ispahan" with its harmonic intricacies and glorious coda. The orchestrated songs and other vocal pieces are performed here by leading international mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught, who has appeared in productions at the Opera de Paris, the Bavarian State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and almost every other prestigious venue in Europe and the USA. She was particularly successful in a new production of "La Cenerentola" at the Vienna State Opera, for which she was hailed as the "New Bel Canto Queen" by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The conductor Jean-Luc Tingaud is a regular guest at important opera houses in Europe and the USA.
