Mette Henriette's well-received self-titled debut is now followed by "Drifting" - an album steeped in trio conversations with idiosyncratic, original expression. With returnee Johan Lindvall on piano and newcomer Judith Hamann on cello, Mette presents chamber music elaborations of a highly focused and exploratory nature, expressed through subtle yet intense interaction. Motifs and recurring patterns emerge almost inconspicuously, revealing a concise narrative. The saxophonist explains that "this album is in motion. It's making its way and has its own pace - the creative gesture is fundamentally different from what I've done before." Recorded in Oslo, finished at La Buissonne studios and produced by Manfred Eicher, "Drifting" presents trio explorations of muted textures and varied timbres with particular clarity and precision.
