Popis
In 1965, John Coltrane released his album "A Love Supreme." The most famous and successful studio album of the jazz saxophonist in the form of a suite is today one of the most important albums of jazz. Coltrane called "A Love Supreme" a "humble offering to the divine." No other composition or recording was performed in a similar manner. "A Love Supreme" was both an individual testament and a public statement, a sermon of universalist faith. The concert recording "A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle" now expands the story of a great musician and a timeless piece of music. Although it was John Coltrane's most famous album, he had rarely brought it to the stage. Until now, the only known live recording came from a performance at a jazz festival in the French town of Antibes on the Côte d'Azur in 1965, and was released on CD in 2002. Now, for the first time, "A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle" is another complete live version of the suite, recorded in Seattle in October 1965. This is a rare private recording. The set was recorded in 1965 by John Coltrane and Joe Brazil on the last night of Coltrane's week-long stay at "The Penthouse" jazz club in Seattle. The performance took place in the sextet, which, in addition to the "classic quartet" with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones, consisted of Pharoah Sanders (saxophone) and Donald Garrett (bass), and was sometimes expanded by Carlos Ward (saxophone). However, the recordings were mostly lost in Joe Brazil's archives until they were rediscovered after his death in 2013. "A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle" is over 75 minutes, more than double the length of the original studio LP.
