"A Fable" is Tigran Hamasyan's first solo album, having previously recorded three albums as a leader. It was released in 2011 and was hailed for the rare maturity of a very young musician to present such a groundbreaking recording. At the time, the pianist was described as one of the most important jazz discoveries by critics impressed by his artistry. Tigran Hamasyan is known for the way he blends powerful jazz improvisations with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia, and with "A Fable," he has once again hit it big. Hamasyan offers a stunning one-man show with clear allusions to Monk and Miles Davis, to Liszt and Debussy, while creating a space that is distinctly his.
