"Three O'Clock High" was an unconventional take on an '80s high school comedy. The film, stylishly directed by Phil Joanou (U2's Rattle and Hum, State of Grace, Final Analysis), was more reminiscent of Scorsese than John Hughes and starred Casey Siemaszko as a nerd who has to deal with a psychopathic bully (played by Richard Tyson) after school. The film became a cult hit on home video, helped by the atmospheric, dynamic and pulsating score by German synthpop legends Tangerine Dream (Sorcerer, Thief, Risky Business). Director Joanou was eager to hire the band for the film and was overjoyed when they agreed: "The Berlin sessions with Edgar Froese and Paul Haslinger were a (Tangerine) dream come true," he writes in the new liner notes for this release. "In their studio right next to the Berlin Wall, we worked on every single track for several weeks.... What they could coax out of a keyboard, as well as guitars, bass and drums, was just incredible. I was blown away." Tangerine Dream's 15 tracks are augmented by additional music from Sylvester Levay (when the filmmakers needed more cues and couldn't afford to return to Berlin) and Jim Walker's well-known song, "Something to Remember Me By."
