Sacred Bones announce the physical release of Robin Carolan's original soundtrack to Robert Eggers' upcoming film "Nosferatu". Robin Carolan's latest soundtrack to Robert Eggers' highly anticipated "Nosferatu" is a haunting, gothic-influenced and carefully crafted work that draws from a wide range of sounds, instruments and inspirations. Following their successful collaboration on "The Northman", Carolan once again teams up with Eggers to bring the legendary story of Nosferatu to life, infusing the film with a score as complex and nuanced as the story it tells. Conducted by Daniel Pioro, one of the UK's most exciting young classical musicians, who conducts the orchestra for most of the recording, the soundtrack features a huge orchestration of 60 strings, a full choir, various horns and woodwinds, a harpist and two percussionists. Despite the great orchestration, one of the most difficult pieces was the music box at the beginning of the movie. Carolan and Eggers labored to perfect its sound, a process marked by their meticulous attention to detail, which Carolan describes as almost telepathic. Nosferatu is set in the 1800s, which allowed him to incorporate contemporary instruments, although he made a conscious effort to ensure the score didn't sound too modern. Carolan's inspirations for the soundtrack were as varied as they were profound. He often drew on the works of Bartok and Coil, while films such as "The Innocents", "Angels and Insects" and "Eyes Wide Shut" served as cinematic inspiration. He also explored the more obscure side of Hammer Horror soundtracks and found a deep affinity with the music of the Ukrainian film "The Night of Ivan Kupalo", which helped shape the otherworldly sound of the score. Carolan deliberately moved beyond the typical horror score and focused on capturing the melancholy and tragic elements of the story while weaving in a touch of distorted romance. The result is a soundtrack that not only complements the movie, but also stands on its own and is a testament to Carolan's artistry and the enduring power of collaboration.
