"Oracle", recorded in 1993 and originally released in 1994, documents the first duo encounter between two ECM legends: double bassist Gary Peacock and Ralph Towner on classical and twelve-string guitar (another session followed in 1998 with "A Closer View"). As Gramophone magazine noted at the time, Peacock and Towner create an "intellectual intensity" on the album that is "seductively beautiful to listen to". In their exploration of their own pieces, the duo unfolds a thoughtful interplay that seamlessly blends composed material and adventurous improvisation, creating striking chamber music dialogues that highlight the special sonic qualities of their stringed instruments. The album was produced by Manfred Eicher. Now released on vinyl for the first time as part of ECM's Luminessence series, "Oracle" comes in a tip-on gatefold cover with photos of the recording session.
