These 1969 recordings (released 5 years later) combine Shepp's free-jazz bonaverse and a blend of blues and funk with an African twist, all in a big-band setting. All-star brass players James Spaulding and Charles Davis on saxophone and trombonist Graham Moncur III star on standout tracks like "New Africa" and "Spoo Pee Doo." This Verve By Request LP was transferred from analog tapes and remastered on 180-gram vinyl and pressed at Third Man in Detroit.
