Forged in the fires of Pandemic, Radiate Like This, Warpaint's highly anticipated new album, arrives a full 6 years after their debut. "I said the other day that we should call this album Exquisite Corpse, but the name was already taken," laughs Warpaint's Emily Kokal, referring to the title of their debut EP. Now the band continues their brilliant, beautiful story with a very modern mythology of their own. If the previous album was the beginning of growing up, "Radiate Like This" presents Warpaint in all its glory, a luminous coalescence of sound and vision that stubbornly belies its genesis, as the quartet recorded the individual parts all separately in different cities. "It's the first time we've recorded an album this way, but in a strange way it made us take our time with everything," Kokal muses. This new sense of quiet confidence can be heard throughout the album, in the calm, slow build of first single "Champion," the beguiling push pull of "Proof," the delicate complexity of tracks like "Melting" and the tongue-in-cheek "Send Nudes." It's an album bursting with ideas, energy and - most importantly - great melodies.
