This film portrait of an unusual musical partnership reveals the special musical relationship between Argentine bandoneon great Dino Saluzzi and German cellist Anja Lechner. "El Encuentro" (Engl. the encounter), subtitled "a film for bandoneon and cello," follows its protagonists to locations in Argentina, Germany, Armenia, Italy, Holland and Switzerland. Although their personal backgrounds could hardly be more different - on the one hand the traditions of South American tango, on the other the heritage of european classical music - Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner have been making music together since the mid-90s. The film offers rare insights into the lives of traveling musicians: the intimacy of rehearsals and recording sessions, as well as the lively exchange of ideas, philosophies, and Experiences - shared along the way by composers and musicians such as Tigran Mansurian, Levon Eskanian, George Gruntz and Dino's brother Felix Saluzzi. The highlight of this cinematic journey is that concert with the Metropole Orchestra in Amsterdam's Musziekgebouw, which was documented in the highly acclaimed ECM live album "El Encuentro".
