Franz Schreker's career was abruptly ended by events in 1933, but before that he achieved fame with his operas. The great success of his "Der Schatzgräber" in the 1920s was the high point of his career. In a complex and ultimately tragic story of destructive greed, desire and toxic social hierarchy, the opera tells of Els, the innkeeper's daughter, who must face the consequences of her murderous plans. Conductor Marc Albrecht praises this "work of outstanding quality, concentration and importance." Director Christof Loy directs this critically acclaimed production by Deutsche Oper Berlin.
