Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich have put the finishing touches to the complete recording of Peter Tchaikovsky's symphonies on ALPHA CLASSICS, proving to be an almost ideal combination for the music of the great Russian. Now the six famous recordings are available, complemented here by the Capriccio Italien op. 45, the Fantasy Overture Romeo and Juliet, the Waltz and Polonaise from the opera Eugene Onegin, the Solemn Coronation March for Tsar Alexander III, and the Fantasy Francesca da Rimini op. 32. The first two sets (jpc 10323834 & 10440960) were praised to the skies by the international press. Among others, they received the Diapason d'Or as well as the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, which justified its award as follows: "This is direct, vivid, stringent, and sounds up to the finale of this Russian symphony of fate never perfumed, always gripping. [...] This should be an exciting Tchaikovsky cycle from Zurich!". And so ALPHA CLASSICS and the Swiss orchestra have decided to release the complete cycle right now on the occasion of the reopening of the great hall of the prestigious Tonhalle Zurich.
The temple of the Muses, located on the shores of Lake Zurich and inaugurated in 1895 by none other than Johannes Brahms, is now seeing concert life return after several years of renovation. Of course, the world-famous acoustics were preserved during the renovation, so there is no doubt that Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle Orchestra will open a new chapter in international musical life in this extraordinary setting. So let's look forward to many more interpretive highlights from the dream team from Lake Zurich!
